The Republican Herald newspaper reported online that a 12-year-old girl had part of her leg amputated today (Wednesday, August 20, 2014) after being run over by a Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad Company train around 2:30 PM in Mahanoy City. The incident occurred along the 500 block of West Railroad Street.
The story adds that the girl was flown via Medevac helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest.

From a distance, Mahanoy City Police officers and officers with Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad Company could be seen walking along the train tracks.
Around 5 PM today, yellow tape and police vehicles prevented access to the area.
Police are still investigating.
