
Rush Township Police were called around 10:54 AM this morning (Monday, August 18, 2014) to the Radio Shack retail store at the HT Commons in Hometown (Rush Township) following an armed robbery.
According to Rush Township Police Sergeant Duane Frederick, two darker-skinned males, both wearing gloves, bound an employee’s hands and feet together with tape and left him in the back room while they gathered merchandise and fled. Frederick added that the robbers left the store with all the items using a shopping cart and duffle bags.
The employee didn’t suffer any major injuries.
Frederick said that both males, one armed with a handgun, were wearing baggie jeans, sweatshirts and winter type hats. One male had dreadlocks.
It is estimated between $5k and $10k worth of cell phones and other merchandise were stolen from the store.
Witnesses told police that the two individuals were seen walking along the stores of the commons. The suspects also entered one of those stores.
The getaway vehicle (unknown right now) was believed to be staged behind the adjacent bowling alley.
A person close to the employee told TamaquaArea.com that both robbers spoke to Spanish.
Other police departments from surrounded area also responded.
