Firefighters with Citizen’s Fire Company in Tamaqua spent time going over the edge during emergency rope descent and egress training held Monday evening (August 11, 2014) at the Tamaqua Fire Department Training Grounds along SR309 in the borough.
During the training, firefighters learned to rappel safely down a 25-foot structure using a bailout rope and break device. A second safety line was also used during the training.
The company received fourteen Sterling 50-foot F-4 Bailout Rope Kits recently via a FEMA grant.

The kits, which include an auto-locking descent control device, allow firefighters to safely and quickly egress or escape in a worsening fire condition.
Tamaqua firefighters said this training simply provided them with the experience and equipment know-how. In addition, firefighters added that is also gave them confidence in their gear.
Going over the edge during Monday’s training were firefighters Kayla Hartz, Brad Sanders, Francis Betz, Jason Green, Mike Hubert, Justin Giglio, and Jeff Hartz.
