‘CITZ FEST 2014’ PLANNED WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY IN MAHANOY CITY; TRUCK PARADE IS 7 PM ON FRIDAY

8-13-2014, Citz Fest, Mahanoy CityThe Citizens Fire Company and Mahanoy City EMS of Mahanoy City are holding their 4-day ‘Citz Fest 2014″ carnival tomorrow (Wednesday, August 13, 2014) to Saturday, August 16, 2014.
The event includes rides, vendors, food, beer, entertainment and more.
Wednesday and Thursday will include special activities for the kids.
On Wednesday, Mahanoy City Police will being holding a Kid’s Bike Safety Night. Mahanoy In addition to bicycle safety inspections, kids will be able to ride a bicycle obstacle course. Prizes will be awarded as well.
On Thursday, firefighters will hold Fire Awareness Night, aka “Children’s Fire Academy.” During the event, children will have a chance to enter a smoke trailer used to show the hazards of fire and ways to safely exit a burning home. A number of fire equipment and apparatus will also be available for display, This event includes a smoke detector giveaway.
Friday and Saturday will incorporate a food challenge, DJ entertainment and beer garden.
Friday will be a chili cook-off from 4 to 7 PM. In addition, a fire truck parade is planned for Friday at 7 PM. A trophy program will follow.
Saturday brings a barbecue smoke-off. Judging for the barbecue smoke-off will start at 2 PM. Prizes for first and second place will be awarded in each contest.
Also on Saturday, volunteers will be holding their first annual Citz Fest Bike Run with prizes awarded to first, second and last place. Registration for the 70-mile run will be from 9 AM to 11 AM. Riders will depart at 11 AM and return around 4 PM. Each rider must make one stop in Mahanoy City, Tamaqua, Lehighton, Middleport and Frackville before returning. In addition to the carnival, company members will conduct a “Boot Drive” to benefit the Wounded Warriors program.
