MAN FLOWN AFTER CRASHING MOTORCYCLE INTO BOULDER, FENCE AND TREE ALONG US209 NEAR CUMBOLA

Motorcycle Accident, Man Flown, US209, near Cumbola, 8-9-2014 (4)An unidentified man was flown to the hospital after losing control of his motorcycle around 4:15 PM yesterday (Saturday, August 9, 2014) along a curve on US209 north between Cumbola and Port Carbon. The motorcycle, a Kawasaki, crashed into a boulder, fence and a tree.
Firefighters on scene said the impact was so hard that a section of bark was missing from the tree. They added that the crash caused the rider, who was wearing a helmet, to be thrown about 50-feet. Despite having a obvious broken leg and other injuries, the rider was conscious when firefighters got there.  A helicopter landed at the Port Carbon ball field for transport to Lehigh Valley Hospital.
The incident took place in the area of Boardman Brothers. This has been the site of numerous crashes in past months. Two of which were fatal.
Responding were Pennsylvania State Police, East Norwegian Township Fire Company, Port Carbon Fire Company, Cumbola Fire Company, and others. Pottsville Ambulance and Schuylkill Haven EMS also responded.
East Norwegian Fire Police controlled traffic during the incident.
