Volunteers held a ‘Vegetable Picking & Kids Day’ at the new Lansford Organic Community Garden yesterday (Monday, July 28, 2014).
The new organic garden is located at the intersection of Center and Bertsch Streets in Lansford. In addition to picking vegetables, kids enjoyed a number of fun activities. The event was free and all community members were invited.
Growing in the garden are romaine lettuce, green beans, tomatoes, kale, peppers, herbs, parsley, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, brussels sprouts and so on.
The garden also displays a large variety of flowers.
Jodi Mika, garden coordinator and Children’s Director at Grace Community Church, said the vegetables were planted on June 21st. She added that no pesticides or herbicides were used in the garden.
