SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAUSES POWER OUTAGES AND DAMAGE IN NESQUEHONING

A severe thunderstorm this evening (Wednesday, July 23, 2014) resulted in property damage and area power outages in Nesquehoning and other parts of Carbon County.
Most power outages were the result of multiple fallen trees in the borough.
Crews were seen in the 600 and 900 blocks of East Catawissa Street (US209).
Responding in Nesquehoning were PPL, firefighters, police and fire police.
PPL’s website reported 231 customers without power in Nesquehoning as of 9:55 PM. As of 10:30 PM, the website listed 12 customers without power.
Other Carbon County municipalities affected by power outages were Mahoning Township, Lansford, Lehigh Township and Jim Thorpe.
