There were no injuries or major damage following a stove/grease fire early this morning (Sunday, July 20, 2014) on the 200 block of East Broad Street (US209) in Tamaqua.
Emergency personnel were dispatched at 1:37 AM today to 243 East Broad Street for a report of a structure fire. A neighbor said she could see heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the row home (which is located just east of the US209 bridge work).

Tamaqua Police officer Tom Rodgers, who was one of the first to arrive, was quick to use a fire extinguisher to quell the fire. Officer Keith Krapf also assisted.
Firefighters responded shortly after and placed large exhaust fans at exit and entry points to the property.
Tamaqua Fire Chief Tom Hartz said the fire started when the resident walked away from the stove. Hartz added that there was no injuries or major damage.
Responding were Tamaqua Ambulance, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, and firefighters from American Hose Company, East End Fire Company, Citizen’s Fire Company and South Ward Fire Company.
Tamaqua Fire Police directed traffic at the Market and East Broad Street intersection.
Hartz announced that all responding units were available around 2:30 AM.
