The Tamaqua Borough has issued a water boil advisory for Dutch Hill residents starting 7 AM tomorrow (Friday, July 18, 2014). A number of residents in the Dutch Hill section received a two-page notice today about the water boil advisory.

On Monday, July 14, 2014, Tamaqua Water Authority personnel found a leak on the thirty-inch main in the area of Elm Street. To repair the leak, that section of the main, which serves the Dutch Hill section of the Borough, will be shut down at approximately 7 AM tomorrow. Temporary service will be provided by pumping water from the hydrant located at Market and Union Streets to the hydrant at Union and Elizabeth Street. This may create conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system. As a result, there is an increased chance the water many contain disease-causing organisms.
Residents are encouraged to boil their water for at least one minute and let it cool, before using it.
The notice reads: “After repairs have been made and normal service has been restored, the system will be flushed and water samples taken. The water samples will be taken to an independent lab to be tested for bacteria. We will inform you when all corrective actions have been completed and when you no longer need to boil your water.”
The notice asks residents to share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may have not received this notice directly.
It is unknown when the water boil advisory will be lifted.

Everyone that is effected by this and every boil advisory should be notified in advance. I live on dutch hill and did not know anything about this. This is very frustrating.
