A Lansford man was taken to the hospital yesterday (Monday, July 14, 2014) after crashing his car into a utility trailer being hauled by a truck on SR54 (Claremont Avenue) in Hometown. The crash occurred around 5:15 PM.
Rush Township Police Sergeant Duane Frederick said 28-year-old Nicholas Kopp of Lansford was traveling north on Claremont Avenue in a red 2008 BMW when he apparently fell asleep, crossed the median and struck a oncoming trailer that was connected to a white 2006 Chevrolet truck driven by 31-year-old Roy Horning of Leola. The impact caused the trailer to disconnect from the truck, flip-over and spill its cargo all over the roadway.
Kopp was taken to St Luke’s Hospital – Miners Campus for unknown injuries. Horning and his 4 passengers (all with Voganville Masonry of New Holland) were not injured. Kopp was at fault and will be cited.
Responding were Rush Township Police, Hometown Fire Company, Tamaqua Rescue, Tamaqua Ambulance, Quakake Fire Company, Hometown Fire Police and others.
A southbound section of SR309 was partly closed during the incident while Hope’s Towing removed the vehicles and cleaned the scene.
