Rush Township Supervisors held their monthly meeting last week (Thursday, June 19, 2014) at the Rush Township Municipal Building in Hometown.
All three supervisors were present during the meeting. They are Chairman Shawn E. Gilbert, Vice-Chairman Robert J. Leibensperger and supervisor Jeaninne Motroni.
Numerous items were brought up.

Some items discussed included:
Township officials talked about the “Equipment Rental with Operators Bid Opening”. There was only 1 bid – by Troppy Contracting for $38,778. Some of the 8 items in the contract include reconstruction and pipe replacement on Tide Road, reconstruction of South Street, cul-de-sac repair on Eli Street, storm water inlets and paving repairs on Jones Street, extension of South Street, and various other road repairs and storm pipe repairs. It was approved.
The secretary read correspondence from the Ryan Township Emergency & Rescue Squad to allow them as EMS provide for portions of Rush Township. The letter continues. (See image below.)
– Motion to accept Jarrad Bernitsky’s resignation from the sewer department. It was approved.
– Motion to accept Darlene Fenstermacher’s resignation from full time secretary/treasurer. It was approved.
– Motion to promote Denise Hope to the full time secretary/treasurer position at $15.50/hr. It was approved.
– Motion to hire Caitlin Whildin as part time administrative assistant at $12.50/hr. It was approved.
– Motion to increase Mike Zimmerman’s hourly wage to $17.50/hr for taking on more responsibilities. It was approved.
– Motion to increase Paul Kuropatsky’s hourly wage to $15/hr due to his probationary period coming to an end. It was added that he has a CDL. It was approved.
– Motion to increase Elden Neifert’s (road foreman) hourly wage to $18/hr.
– Motion to hire Carl Yaccino as full time sewer/road position at $15/hr. It was approved.
– Motion for Merle Wertman (Captain, Rush Township Fire Police) to order three more fire police badges. It was approved.
– Motion to approve Resolution No. 2014-13 for approval and execution of the contract for a 2015 Mack GU432 Plow Dump Truck. It was approved.
– Motion for Rush Township to authorize PennDOT Engineering Disrict 5-0 to change phase signal time according to traffic study PennDOT conducted on SR309 (Claremont Avenue) & SR 54 (Mahanoy Avenue/Lafayette Boulevard) & SR1021 (Lincoln Drive). It was approved.
– Motion to authorize signature of all documents necessary for easement acquisitions for the Lincoln Drive Sanitary Project. It was approved.
– Motion to approve the June 13, 2014 License Agreement between Rush Township and Trans Western Polymer Inc – granting Rush Township and its agents permission to excavate on portions of land owned by Trans Western Polymers, and agreeing to hold Trans Western Polymers harmless for any damages caused by such excavation. It was approved.
– Motion to approve naming Shawn Gilbert as the representative to sign for and bind Rush Township as the signatory to the June 13, 2014 License Agreement with Trans Western Polymer. It was approved.
– Motion to authorize Rush Township’s solicitor to take all steps necessary to update the Rush Township Floodplain Ordinance to comply with all new requirements of state and federal rules and the regulations of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. It was approved.
– Motion to approve Traffic Signal Maintenance Contract Renewal with Signal Service Inc. It was approved.
Supervisor’s Comment:
“Properties are being posted for water shutoff due to non payment of sewer bills. Those properties that the water can not be shut off on will be sent to sheriff sale.”
“Correspondence received by the Supervisors, Code Enforcement or administrative staff that does not have a signature can not be acted upon.”
