An oversized, wide load that caused a two-hour long traffic delay today (Tuesday, June 24, 2014) in West Penn Township is expected to continue north through Tamaqua sometime Wednesday.
Early this evening, drivers traveling north on SR309 said they were stuck behind the large load for up to two hours as it traveled north on SR309 through Lehigh County and West Penn Township. Due to its wide size, police prevented vehicles from passing the truck.
Shawn Phillips, who said he was stuck behind the oversized load for over 2 hours today, heard from the transport crew that they expect to continue north through Tamaqua sometime tomorrow.
The convoy is currently staged near the coal pockets in South Tamaqua.
It is unknown what is being transported or its destination. Signage on the side of the truck reads Diamond Heavy Hauling. The convoy includes the main cargo truck and about 6 forward and follow trucks.
