Quite a stir arose yesterday (Wed. May 28, 2014) after false rumors spread via Facebook about the closing of a popular Tamaqua restaurant.
Late Tuesday night, posts began springing up all over the popular social network, claiming that Grande Pizza, 1209 East Broad Street, in the former Jamesway Plaza, was closing its doors this coming Saturday night.
“I’m happy to know its only a rumor,” said Amy Nace on Facebook. “This is truly a staple to Tamaqua. It’s a shame others find humor in making up lies about such wonderful people.”
Another business tenant of the plaza, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the owners of the plaza hinted about a rent increase for all tenants over the next few months. The plaza is owned by BET Investments, who owns properties in 11 states.
“As of now, there are no plans to close,” said Cam Do, wife of the owner of the eatery. “We love our customers and we do not want to close.”
Ironically, three years ago in May 2011, the owners of Grande Pizza were the victims of another rumor involving a “dead body” under a bridge. Click HERE to view a Times News story about that rumor.
“We are on a month-to-month lease,” Cam Do added. “The building owner has not stated an increase for us yet. We have to wait to see what happens.” She said that when they are told an amount of increase, they may then need to make a decision.
Grande Pizza has been a staple in the borough for 42 years.
