George Geissinger, longtime member of the Tamaqua Area Animal Rescue (TAAR), walks Sirius, a year-old male Akita-mix. Geissinger, who has rescued many dogs in his life-time, adopted Sirius recently from a city shelter in the Manhattan borough of New York. He said the shelter euthanizes between 10-20 animals a day. The borough is the most densely populated of the city’s five boroughs.
In addition to rescuing dogs, Geissinger serves as an active member of the TAAR and key fundraiser for their Annual Dog Walk held every year.
