“It is a shame. We hike and ride here all the time,” said volunteer and Tamaqua native Kevin Parson. “This is where we grew up.”
Parsons, Frank Galliccio and Kyle Kane spent time recently gathering piles of debris littered along a dirt path located behind the Tamaqua Area Middle School.
Most of the litter sits on property belonging to the Reading Anthracite Company. It was discovered last month while Tamaqua Councilman and South Ward resident Justin Startzel was walking the path.
The majority of the litter consists of construction materials, tires and furniture.
Tamaqua Crime Watch (TCW) is still offering a $250 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved. Area residents are adamant that the construction litter is from two South Ward residents. TCW is asking all residents to be more alert to litter bugs and to record anything suspicious via their cell phone.
Parsons said they need more help and trucks to gather and remove all the litter. Call Parsons at (570) 778-4097 or contact Startzel at https://www.facebook.com/justin.startzel.7 if you can help.
