Bridge work is well underway on two bridges that connect State Route 309 and Interstate 81 in Kline Township.
This is part of PennDOT’s Northeastern PA Bridge Preservation and Repair Project; which involves 13 different structures in Schuylkill Carbon and Monroe Counties.
This project consists of bridge repairs of various structure types, including but not limited to structural steel repairs, concrete deck repairs, concrete beam and substructure repairs, bearing repairs, joint repairs/joint sealing, and scour countermeasures, along with other miscellaneous construction in various municipalities.
In relation, there are long term lane restrictions on I-81 for an ongoing project to replace or rehabilitate structures between exits 134 (Delano) and 138 (PA 309) in Delano and Kline townships.
Currently, all traffic has been shifted to the southbound side via a crossover, with both north and southbound lanes remaining in a long term 24-hour single lane pattern. This single lane traffic pattern will be in effect until December.
Contractors for the $4,828,750 project are J.D. Eckman, Inc.
The main project began in January of 2012 and is expected to be completed by February 13, 2015.
