TAMAQUA’S BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING (May 6, 2014); VIDEO

Tamaqua Borough Council Meeting, Borough Hall, Tamaqua, 5-6-2014 (2)Numerous items were discussed during Tuesday’s (May 6, 2014) Tamaqua Borough Council meeting held at the Borough Hall. Like all meetings, residents were encouraged to attend and speak during the meeting.
Attending the meeting were Tamaqua Police Chief Rick Weaver, Tamaqua Mayor Chris Morrison, Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt, Solicitor Michael Greek, secretary Georgia Depos DeWire, Council President Micah Gursky and councilmen Dave Mace, Tom Cara, Kerry Dowd, Justin Startzel and Dan Evans.
Some topics and discussions included:
– Secretary read correspondence from the Tamaqua Salvation Army about the upcoming Tamaqua Salvation Army’s Annual Dinner on May 16. Call (570) 668-0410 for more information.
– Steigerwalt mentioned bid results for sale of 3 unused equipment belonging to the borough.
– Borough adopted resolution for Lincoln Drive Sewer Extension Project in Hometown (via Tamaqua Water Department).
– Steigerwalt talked about the Floodplain ordinance update (4 years since last updated).
– Steigerwalt mentioned that the next Public CDBG meeting is set for a half-hour before the start of the next borough council meeting – moved to Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 7 PM due to elections on Tuesday, May 20. The Public CDBG meeting will be at 6:30 PM.
– Weaver told the council that the current police recording system will need to be upgraded at a cost of $2,300.
– The council held an executive session to talk about the hiring of part-time lifeguards and staff at the Tamaqua Bungalow Pool.
– A motion was accepted by the borough to accept a proposal from L & S Electrical Construction Company in the amount of $3,986.00 to upgrade the electrical system at the Bungalow Park Pavilion.
– A number of residents spoke on specific issues. (See video).
– Morrison praised the work being done by borough workers to clean the streets. He also praised the SKIP (Schuylkill Keep It Pretty) program and the Dear Tamaqua program.

Their next meeting is set for Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 7 PM unless otherwise noted. The public is encouraged to attend and get involved.
