The Tamaqua Senior High & Middle School Vocal Music Department presented their annual “Spring Choral Program” yesterday (Thursday, May 8, 2014) in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. The concert featured performances by the Middle School General and Select Chorus, as well as the Sr. High Concert Choir and the Jazz & Concert Chorale.
The middle school General Chorus opened the program with “Glorificamus Te” followed by the One Direction pop hit “What Makes You Beautiful’’. They then sang “Riversong” by Andy Beck and closed their set with “Count On Me” by Bruno Mars.
The middle school Select Chorus opened their set with “A Mozart Canon” by Donald Moore. The chorus then sang two pop songs “Hey Soul Sister” and “Home”, both accompanied by acoustic guitar. They finished by singing “The Water is Wide” arranged by renowned choral composer Rollo Dillworth.
The Jazz Chorale took the stage next singing a variety of musical styles and selections. The chorale began with “We Sing with Joy”, an original composition by Marvin Curtis. The women of the chorale sang “One Voice”, a song made popular by pop singers The Wailin’ Jennys, while the men of the chorale sang “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars. They then sang Gershwin jazz classic in “Love Is Here to Stay”. They closed their set with a traditional Gaelic Blessing “May the Road Rise Up”.
The Concert Choir will ended the program with “Who Will Be a Witness?” by Donald Moore; followed by the choir singing a medley of songs from the Broadway musical “Les Miserables” which featured a number of soloists. The concert concluded with “Music Speaks”, a choral piece written about the power of music.
The accompanists for the choirs were Olivia Behr, Hannah Betz, Andrew Delpais, Antonetta Gerace, Francesca Gerace, Cailyn Joseph, Claire Lewis, Patrick McMullen, Sierra Petrucci, Faith Roberts, and Olivia Stanek. The choirs were under the direction of John D. Buglio.
