A boy, a sixth grader from Tamaqua, was taken to the hospital today (Thursday, May 8, 2014) after being impacted by a car along West Broad Street (US209) in Tamaqua.
The incident occurred shortly after 2:30 PM in the area in front of 246 West Broad Street, located about 150 feet east of the St. Jerome’s School.
Nearby resident Brian McDonald, who witnessed the incident, said the boy ran from the eastbound sidewalk, between parked cars and into the path of a car traveling east on West Broad Street. He added that the impact caused the boy to come into contact with the hood and windshield of the car.
Another resident (who wished to remain anonymous) praised three individuals (a doctor, nurse and physical therapist), who were all in the area and offered immediate aid to the boy. The resident added that the boy was conscious and able to walk following the incident.
Neighbors added that the driver of the car, a tan Cadillac Seville Northstar, also offered assistance. There appeared to be very little damage done to the car. For unknown reason, the Cadillac was towed from the scene by Hope’s Towing and Collision.
That section of road was closed for about 20 minutes.
Responding were Tamaqua Police, Tamaqua Fire Police, Tamaqua Ambulance and Lehighton Ambulance.
The boy was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital – Miners Campus for x-rays and other tests.
“It is scary,” said McDonald, who said he has three kids around the same age. “I am still shaking.”
