
Rush Township Supervisors held their monthly meeting yesterday (Thursday, May 15, 2014) at the Rush Township Municipal Building in Hometown.
All three supervisors were present during the meeting. They are Chairman Shawn E. Gilbert, Vice-Chairman Robert J. Leibensperger and supervisor Jeaninne Motroni.
Numerous items were brought up. Some include:
– Public comments (See video).
– Police Sergeant Duane Frederick said that his department had 452 calls, gave 112 citations and wrote 36 parking tickets in March.
– Supervisors approved minutes from the last meeting (March 20 to April 9), treasurer’s reports, current township and sewer bills through April 30, and municipal reports (sewer, road, arro, predesign). They also approved correspondence regarding governing, township news, letter from Ryan Township Emergency, PSATS bulletin, catalyst, monitor, and letter from Mr. Behun.
– Supervisors approved a motion for the Rush Township Fire Police to assist at the Tamaqua Memorial Day Parade on Monday May 26, 2014 and to assist with the KME Race on Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 11 AM to 6 PM.
– Supervisors approved a motion to open all township-owned parks for all Little League or children’s sports organizations on a temporary basis.
– Supervisors approved a motion to adopt Resolution #2014-10 price adjustment of bituminous materials for small quantities.
– Supervisors also talked about the number of garbage and sewer delinquencies. They added that they will start turning water off at delinquent homes in about two weeks. (See video).

– Barry Messerschmidt, Chief, Hometown Fire Company, said that Pennsylvania Game Commission will be doing a large 70-acre controlled burn Friday (April 18, 2014) in the state game lands northeast of the Tuscarora Lake State Park. Click HERE for more information.

1. Curb side recycling started on March 3, 2014. If you did not receive a container or have any questions, please contact the office at (570) 668-2938. The hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Click HERE for related information.
2. Residents are urged to register for the Code Red Emergency Notification System on the township website (www.RushTownship.org) or by visiting https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/BF348D4940E1. Supervisors added that all information is kept private.
As a second-class Township according to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Rush Township is governed by three (3) members of the Board of Supervisors.
Supervisors set policy, approve budgets, approve expenditures, hire and fire personnel, approve zoning changes and subdivisions, appoint members to boards and commissions, and decide how to operate the township. Their terms are six (6) years each.
The supervisors meet at 7 PM on the third Thursday of the month at the Rush Township Municipal Building, Route 54, Hometown.
