More than 200 participants of all ages are expected to take the cold plunge this Saturday morning as part of the YMCA’s annual Plunge For Kids held at the Blue Marsh Lake in Leesport (near Reading).
“We need both participants and spectators to represent our Tamaqua YMCA during the plunge,” said Nick Zigmant, Executive Director, Tamaqua YMCA. “We will all then join other YMCA centers and walk into the lake.”
Zigmant added that they will depart their Tamaqua YMCA (1201 East Broad Street) at 9 AM this Saturday (April 12, 2014) and expect be back in Tamaqua before 3 PM.
Participants are encouraged to carpool.
Immediately following the quick plunge, everyone will be treated to a free warm meal, refreshments and awards at a nearby YMCA.
“Even though the event is free, we always encourage donations,” said Zigmant. “Proceeds will go toward youth programs of the YMCA at large and future expansion of our Tamaqua YMCA.”
Zigmant added that this year’s theme will be zombies. Participants are asked to come in old or worn clothing. He stressed that participants do not have to come in costume or even get wet. “Spectators are just as important,” said Zigmant.
Everyone who wants to participate is encouraged to arrive at the Tamaqua YMCA between 8 – 9 AM Saturday – so volunteers can paint them to look like zombies.
Participants are also asked to bring a towel and change of clothes. Event will be held rain, snow, or shine.
No reservations are required. Everyone is asked to simply show up at the Tamaqua YMCA Saturday morning to carpool to the location (Blue Marsh Lake near Reading).
