According to talk on Facebook and Schuylkill Communication radio traffic, there are multiple Eastern Schuylkill County communities without power at 7:30 AM this morning (Friday, March 14, 2014). Some include Rush Township, West Penn Township, Walker Township, Coaldale, South Tamaqua and Tamaqua.
At 7:30 AM this morning, PPL’s online power outage map stated that 1,118 customers were without power in Rush Township and 18 customers were without power in Tamaqua. That number might change as PPL updates their site.
Fire police were called around 7:20 AM today to the Leiby’s intersection (SR443 and SR309) in South Tamaqua for traffic control.
The site showed that 30 customers in Jim Thorpe (Carbon County) were also without power.
The cause for the power outage is unknown. It is also not known if the multiple-community power outage is related to one or more incidents.
Talk on Facebook states PPL crews might be searching an area between Tamaqua and Coaldale for the outage, although that hasn’t been confirmed and no PPL vehicles were seen from US209 via a TamaquaArea.com reporter.
Information gathered via Facebook talk states that most of the power was lost around 6:45-6:50 AM today.
PPL is telling customers that power is expected to be back on by 9 AM today.
