Longtime Tamaqua councilman John “Sonny” Trudich Jr., 81, passed away Saturday (March 8, 2014) after battling a longtime illness.
Trudich, a former council President, was involved in numerous community projects in his lifetime. Some of which included South Ward Playground, Elm Street Project and Tamaqua Bungalow Park.

John Trudich, Jr., 81, of Owl Creek, PA, died on Saturday, March 8, 2014 in Allentown, PA. Born in Coaldale, PA on January 27, 1933, he was a son of the late John Trudich, Sr. and Anna (nee Duda) Trudich.
A 1951 graduate of Tamaqua High School, John served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from Bethlehem Steel, where he was a supervisor in the furnace room. John also operated the Trudich Garage in Owl Creek and was the cemetery sexton of Ss.Peter & Paul Cemetery since 1973. He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Tamaqua; the Tamaqua Borough Council; and the Tamaqua Public Library Board of Directors.
Surviving him are his companion of 20 years, Sandy Moerder; his former wife of 30 years, Elaine Faye (nee Kastelas) Trudich; their daughter, Shirley Ann French; brothers, Peter Trudich and Michael Trudich both of Owl Creek; sisters, Eleanor Hodge of Hometown, PA, Elizabeth Peper of Owl Creek and Rose Beiswenger and her husband, Al of Harrisburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 13 in Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 307 Pine Street, Tamaqua with The Rev. William Linkchorst officiating. Interment in Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Owl Creek will follow mass. Call Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 PM and Thursday from 8:30-9:30 AM at the Zizelmann-Roche Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua, PA.
