About three dozen seagulls converged on the H.T. Commons parking lot today in Hometown.
Pennsylvania is centered between the Atlantic Coast and the Great Lakes (two substantial gull population centers) and the state’s rivers and land uses have always drawn the seagulls, technically called “gulls”, into its interior.
Many gulls prefer water (not always salt water); but most are occasionally seen far from it. Herring Gulls and Ring-billed Gulls are examples of species common throughout the lower 48.
It is also important to note that not all flocks of seagulls migrate long distances as long as there is plenty of food and water.
