WHERE IS ALL THE SALT?

Tamaqua Borough Truck Laying Salt, Mauch Chunk St, Tamaqua, 2-19-2014 (4)Four weeks of on and off snow and below freezing temperatures, combined with the occasional melting snow, is causing headaches for people searching for salt to melt it all.
Comments via social media show that a number of area stores are sold out of rock salt, for now.

WHAT ARE OUR ALTERNATIVES?
Some responses on Facebook included:
– Amanda Stankavage said water softener salt works as well.
– Kelly Kilpatrick said table salt will work just as good.
– Amanda Skripnek said ashes from a coal stove work great for her mother.
– Mel Bailey said cat litter is a good alternative.

WHICH STORES STILL HAVE SALT?
– Taylor Gottschall and Jodi Mika said Northeast Chemical in Lansford isn’t short on their supply of rock salt.
– Darron Moyer added that the Dollar General in Lansford should still have some left.
– Darrell Harris said M&S had it.
– Nadine Miller pointed out that NAPA in Tamaqua has “lots of it.”
————————————
Wandie Zammer-Little pointed out that salt is not good for pets feet. Damian Shoff continued saying that some manufacturers market pet-safe rock salt.

On a good note, there doesn’t appear to be any shortages for municipality workers, as both state and workers could be seen laying down a constant barrage of salt over the past few days.
