A sizable creation in the front yard of a Summit Hill home is drawing lots of attention.
Summit Hill residents Fred Evans Jr., Shannon O’Donnell and Kevin Gieniec have spent numerous man-hours creating a 45-foot long Valentine’s Day display made of snow, ice and a few other materials. It’s attractions include a red heart-colored igloo, a 10-foot red arch and about a dozen colored ice hearts.
Donna Evans, who owns the East Fell Street home where the creation is located, said the display is attracting people from all over. Evans and O’Donnell added that social media is helping to attract people.
“We purchased all the food coloring from all area stores,” said O’Donnell. “We cleaned the shelves.”
They added that a steel cage was placed inside the igloo to keep it strong and safe.
This holiday layout was the second holiday creation done by the trio. For Christmas, they built a large Grinch display, also made primarily of snow and ice. That display even had its own 2-foot high Norway Spruce Christmas Tree inside the igloo. Evans said he spent three hours coating the Christmas display with water to prevent it from melting during warmer weather.
Evans said he hopes to continue this holiday tradition every year. He is already talking about building a four-leaf clover for March, if the snow hasn’t melted.
When asked what they called their work of art, Evans replied “The Life of An Igloo in Summit Hill.”
