Tamaqua Mayor Chris Morrison signed a Declaration of Disaster (known in the past as State of Emergency) around 8 AM this morning for the borough. “This was primarily done to encourage drivers to stay off the roads and allow plow crews to do their jobs,” said Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt. He added that it was also done in case of any possible state or federal assistance.
“It remains in effect until further notice,” added Steigerwalt.
Coaldale and Lansford have also declared similar items for their boroughs.
On Wednesday, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett activated the State Emergency Operations Center.
Tamaqua’s Declaration of Disaster was lifted at 11:30 AM on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014.
