The King Coal Express, a special passenger excursion train run by the Reading and Blue Mountain Northern via their Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, made another surprise visit today (Feb. 10, 2014) as it traveled the rails north through Tamaqua, Barnesville and Rush Township. It reversed direction behind Air Products, traveling south through Rush Township, Barnesville, Tamaqua, West Penn Township and New Ringgold. Its destination was unknown.
Yesterday, the special train sat idle for about an hour or so along South Railroad Street in Tamaqua. The special train consisted of a diesel locomotive, three private cars and a vista dome observation car.
Tamaqua Historical Society President Dale Freudenberger said the train usually starts and ends in Port Clinton.
