SR309 north at Tamaqua’s Five Points intersection is reopened after being closed over 7 hours today while borough workers repaired a water main leak.
Tamaqua borough crews spent much of the work day repairing a leak from a 12-inch water main along West Mauch Chunk Street.
Crews were alerted to the leak around 7 AM today.
Tamaqua Fire Police volunteers, staged at three intersections since 8 AM, redirected the northbound traffic towards East Broad Street, and then back onto SR309 via Pine Street.
Borough crews stated that there was and is no water boil advisory since the leak is under positive pressure and not exposed to any contaminants. Water boil advisories are only issued if contaminants get into the water.
A stainless steel repair clamp was used to repair the water main.
In a statement during the last water main leak, a borough official stated that most of the water lines throughout the borough are over a 100 years old.
Repairs are were completed around 3:15 today. The road was opened up a short time later.
