By request of State Police, West Penn Township Police and Fire Police have shut down the Blue Mountain (SR309) in West Penn Township following a double-fatal crash that occurred in Lynn Township (Lehigh County) just before 3 PM today (Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014).
Both lanes of the entire Blue Mountain are closed to non-local traffic while State Police do scene reconstruction.
Lehigh County radio dispatch said the crash involved a pickup truck and work van. According to the Morning Call website, State Police reported that the driver and passenger of the truck were killed at the scene. It adds that the preliminary investigation shows the pickup truck was traveling north on SR309 when it lost control, veered into the southbound path of the work van.
The driver of the work van was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The crash occurred near Mountain Road and a few miles north of Northwestern Lehigh High School. It adds that some of the area is covered with a thick fog and patches of snow and ice.
The road is expected to be closed for the next hour or so.
