The Marian Catholic High School held their 23rd Annual Open House program for prospective Marian High School students and their parents yesterday (Jan. 26, 2014) in the school gymnasium. The program was held as part of this year’s Catholic Schools Week celebration.
During the program, faculty announced that the school as being recently incorporated. Four of the board members were also recognized at the event.
The theme for the Catholic Schools Week is “Catholic Schools Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service,” and festivities will continue all week.
The program begin with information exhibits and booths showing various activities, clubs and organizations.
The formal part of the program included speakers and special music by Marian students. It ended with door prize drawings, including a top prize of $500 toward tuition at the school for the 2014-2015 or the 2015-2016 school year.
After the formal program, visitors were given tours of the school by students.
Refreshments were also served. Staff said that the open house served as an opportunity for interested families to gain information about educational opportunities at the school.
The open house was offered to any student in grades nine through 12 and any student from Carbon, Luzerne and Schuylkill counties interested in attending Marian for the upcoming school year.
In addition, there will also be two informational sessions held at the school on Monday, Feb. 3, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, and Monday, June 16, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM for any parents and/or students who would like more information.
The list of related activities this week also include:
Monday: Ice Cream Sundae and Birthday Party Box Day all students will receive a sundae during lunch period and each home room will decorate a birthday box filled with everything needed for a birthday party. The boxes will then be distributed through Catholic Social Services and Access Services.
Tuesday: talent show.
Wednesday: special Mass offered for government leaders, followed by a time of fellowship. Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to wear red, white and blue.
Thursday: guest speakers from Hazleton Catholic Social Services as well as from Access Services.
Friday: volleyball games in the gym.
