Courageous volunteers took to the frozen waters of the Mauch Chunk Lake State Park today (Saturday, January 25, 2014) during the First Annual “Be Cool for Our School” Polar Plunge to benefit the St. Joseph Regional Academy in Jim Thorpe. All proceeds go towards operating costs for the school.
The finale of the event featured Amanda Salovay, the principal of St. Joseph’s, as one of the “premier plungers”. Mrs. Salovay has promised to plunge if students collect enough monetary pledges to meet their fundraising goal of $10,000. Over $5,000 was raised.
Before the plunge, Mrs. Salovay said she would plunge at  $1000 (up to ankles), $5000 (up to knees), $10,000 (up to waist), over $10,000 (all in!!!). She went in up to her waist.
