2011 Kellner's Dam Fishing Derby
Dear Friends and Sponsors,
I would like to take this time to thank you for your support of last year’s Kellner’s Dam Fishing Derby for the children. Your donations, combined with our volunteer efforts, make an enjoyable and successful weekend for the children. This past years’ derby was a great success for over 300 local children. Your support in the past has been greatly appreciated, and will keep our annual event going strong.
It’s that time of the year when we start looking for the support of the community. We are confident that we can count on you to keep this program alive and growing. All patrons will be recognized on a large roster board, recreated each year, located at the dam. Why not come see for yourself what a wonderful event this is each year for the whole family.
This year’s derby will be held on April 30 and May 1, 2011. The derby is open and free to all children between the ages of 4 to 15 years old. And as always, there will also be many various prizes for tagged fish that are donated by our local businesses and individuals.
We always have a lot of food and beverages at the stand. The stand is worked by many wonderful volunteers. All proceeds go towards next years’ derby. Come and enjoy all of the fine food and have a blast watching the local children catching some of the largest fish around.
Again, let me thank you in advance for your support this year. It will NEVER go unrecognized. Everyone is welcome and volunteers are greatly appreciated, so bring the whole family for a weekend of GREAT FISHING FUN!!!
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING ALL OF YOU FOR A SPECIAL WEEKEND OF FUN!
Sincerely,
Pete Bieniek III

$500 Reward For Kellner’s Dam Vandals
When I read the recent articles in the Times News about the terrible vandalism done to Kellner’s Dam, I became outraged. I used to live on Gay Street (right below Kellner’s Dam). Growing up, I spent many years their playing with my brothers. The Tamaqua Keystone Fish and Hunt Club and other local volunteers spent their time, money, and sweat building and restoring Kellner’s Dam to a park Tamaqua was proud of. Many of the items that were destroyed were made by hand and with great pride by most of these caring volunteers. Our town doesn’t have many maintained and secluded places like this to enjoy. Drunk or not, what kind of people would do this to a community park where families go to fish and enjoy their selves? It would have only took one honorable person in the group to say this was wrong and to stop the destruction. But none of these vandals possessed enough courage to stand up for what was right. Even now, no one has come forth to admit their actions.
Something has to be done to encourage people to come clean with what they know before this fades away. You’d think in a small town like ours that we’d know by know who committed these acts. But no one is coming forth with information. So, I am donating a one-time, first-person $500 reward for anyone’s court-used testimonial that leads to the conviction of any or all of the vandals that took part in the hurtful destruction of Kellner’s Dam. My only purpose is to show these criminals that Tamaqua doesn’t put up with vandalism and pointless acts of destruction. These criminals’ destructive actions and lack of honor are a disgrace to all the hard work the many volunteers put into the Kellner’s Dam Project. We will find them. And they will pay for their crimes.
Please call the Tamaqua Police if you have any useful information concerning the Kellner’s Dam vandalism.
